Hall of the Prisoners. Used in the nineteenth century to display ancient paintings from the various collections, the Galleria was later altered to house the unfinished statues by Michelangelo, thus creating a specific, unified itinerary that culminates in the center of the Tribune where Michelangelo’s David stands under a halo-like dome.
Moses and the surrounding statues of the composition in this church were to be part of a far more grandiose tomb, but Julius II was instead buried in Saint Peter's Basilica. Michelangelo's unfinished sculptures of "Four Prisoners," which are today located in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, were also supposed to accompany this work.

Jul 04, 2017 · Michelangelo is definitively my favorite artist of all times and his three sculptures that fascinate me are the Pieta (at St. Peter´s Basilica in Rome), the Moses (at San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome) and the David; the way the David is displayed is great, you can walk around it, you can see it from a distance or get close to it, there is enough space to seat and calmly look at the details.
